My good years and bad years seem to come in waves. In order for She’s in Love with the World to even have a “Year in Review,” I need to bring it all the way back to mid-2009, when I first decided to take the leap into the unknown world of travel and blog writing. I was laid off, the economy was bad and I was pretty damn directionless. Ask anyone. As 2009’s close drew near, it looked as though 2010 would be the Year of the Awesome for me, and for the most part, it was.

Ch-Ch-Changes [in Travel Plans]

I’ve met a lot of people on the road doing some pretty awesome things — teaching English, running their own businesses, blogging, volunteering — and realized I really wanted to be one of them. So I’ve chosen to stay in Bangkok for the time being to work toward that goal.

A Louse in Laos

There are certain things that can’t be avoided while traveling. Some, like making new friends, are a good thing. Others, like getting sick, or having to do the runaround from hospital to clinic to pharmacy until someone understands you…not so much.

What I’ve Learned a Month into Travel

It’s hard to believe that Andrea and I are already a month into our travels. We’re finishing up our stay in Thailand and get on the slow boat to Laos tomorrow. Looking back at my Abbey Road journal I’ve been keeping (sorry, not everything goes public!), I came in with no expectations and an open mind and I’m continually amazed at what I’m finding out about myself, travel and Thailand.

How to Deal: Treacherous Travel Days

Up until now, traveling from place to place has been easy. Too easy, even. It was only a matter of time before the luxuries of air-conditioned sleeper trains and vans magically appearing for us when they needed to would be no longer.

Photo of the Week: We’ve Arrived!

We’ve just settled into our first night’s stay at the Imm Fusion on Sukhumvit in Bangkok. A quick power nap and a nice shower and we’ll be off to our first excursion — the Bangkok Tweetup, hosted monthly for travel tweeters and friends in the area.
